The laboratory is divided into three main sections:
- Electrical Systems
- Microgrids
- Home Automation
The electrical system section comprehends all research activitites concerning topics pertaining to the scientific
disciplinary field of electrical systems for utilization and final users.
Thanks to the equipment present, is possible to perfom power quality measurements,
grounding systems and general safety testing, vehicle to grid and power flow simulations.
The microgrids section houses a complete microgrid equipped with a 12kW photovoltaic system,
a 5kWh storage system with built-in inverter, a 5kVA emergency generator set (EGS),
an uninterrupted power supply (UPS). Everything is managed and monitored via a main switchboard installed in the laboratory itself.
Lastly, the home automation sections is equipped with multiple sensors and actuators able to
measure all environmental parameters and perform actions depending on the registered values.
The home automation system comprehends a variety of devices using multiple protocols such as
KNX, ModBUS, DALI, Home Assistant, and many more.
